Tyler Smith — Walters Police Department


Tyler Smith is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over six years of experience committed to community safety and fostering strong interagency relationships. A proud small— town local, he began his career with the Red River Marshal’s Office in Red River, New Mexico, and later served as a deputy at the Cotton County Sheriff’s Office in Oklahoma before joining the Walters Police Department.


Tyler holds numerous hours of specialized training and is a certified Basic Instructor, equipping him to lead and mentor others effectively. Known for his exceptional communication skills and approachable demeanor, he excels in building trust with community members and colleagues alike.


He currently leads a talented team of four full—time officers, supported by a robust group of reserve officers, and prioritizes officer and public safety in all aspects of his work. In addition to his law enforcement role, Tyler serves as a volunteer firefighter, demonstrating his commitment to public service and resilience in working long, demanding hours.


Tyler's ongoing goals include enhancing public trust, ensuring officer preparedness, and strengthening cooperative efforts with surrounding agencies to improve safety and quality of life for all.
